At Yolo County we strive toward a holistic approach in creating a culture of wellness. Occupational, physical, emotional, intellectual, environmental, spiritual, social, and financial well-being are all important considerations when developing staff programs and opportunities.
Our definition of wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy, fulfilling life. It is not merely the absence of disease, but a state of physical, mental and social well-being that is achieved through deliberate effort. We believe utilizing this definition to guide our choices leads to happier, healthier, and more fulfilled employees.
Can you believe creating a “Culture of Wellness” does all that?
On average, people spend approximately 1/3 of their life at work and with many chronic diseases linked to unhealthy lifestyle factors we acknowledge the importance of creating a culture of wellness where we support our employees in finding time for exercise, self-care, good nutrition, work/life balance, and more. Just as research in the field of public health indicates that communities with more opportunities to participate in wellness related activities leads to thriving residents, we attempt to use that same approach when thinking of our community of employees. We encourage and support all of our employees to actively pursue wellness in a way that fits their needs.
