Questions & Answers

What are the Internship Opportunities?
Please click the link for a current listing of Internship Opportunities.  Internships are open until filled and availability is subject to change at any time.

What are the program requirements?
Students must be enrolled in an accredited two or four year college or university with at least a sophomore standing at the time of entry into the intern position,  and be enrolled in at least six college quarter or semester units throughout the duration of the internship in order to remain eligible for the Program.  Students shall provide proof of enrollment at the start of each new term.  Any break in enrollment status for longer than six months shall render the intern ineligible for the College Intern Program.

How do I apply?
Interested students will be asked to undergo an application process in response to any internship opportunity that has been advertised as available.  This process includes completing an online application and submitting a resume.  Applications and resumes will be accepted on a continuous basis, and applicants whose education and career interests/previous volunteer pursuits are the best match for the project available will have their application forwarded by Human Resources to the appropriate department contact(s). Internship opportunities will be available until filled.

Department Intern Supervisors will receive resumes of any intern candidates that have been pre-screened/pre-selected by Human Resources for their internship opportunity.   The department will extend interview invitations to those candidates who are best qualified for the project.

What is the process for the department to place an intern?
Students whose education and career interests/previous volunteer pursuits are the best match for the projects available will have their application forwarded by Human Resources to the appropriate department contact (s).

How long will the internship last?
Internships may be part-time or full-time, depending on the department’s needs.  Participants in this program will be given defined projects at their assigned County department with a defined timeframe for their completion.  The duration of the internship will be determined by the project assigned to the Intern.

Will I be paid?
All internship opportunities through this Program shall be unpaid; however, students are in no way restricted from participating in work-study programs through their college.
Will the County work with my University so that I can earn credits toward my degree?
The County will cooperate fully with any requirements of the student’s work-study program.
