Important COVID-19 Updates
Property statements are required to be filed by May 7th per Revenue and Taxation Code sections 441 & 463. Due to COVID-19, on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order extending the 2020 Property Statement deadline until Monday, June 1, 2020. Per the executive order, statements filed after the June 1, 2020 deadline may be subject to a 10% late filing penalty.

Assessor Office Re-Opening Update -
COVID-19 (Effective 6/1/20):
Following the issuance of Yolo County's latest Health Order on May 28, 2020, The Assessor's Office will re-open to the public on Monday, June 1, 2020. The office will be open for normal business hours Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In accordance with the Health Order, the Assessor's Office will be implementing and monitoring the "Personal Health & Safety Guidance" best practices included in the order. The cornerstones of this will be: wearing of face masks, practicing of social distance and adherence to good hygiene.
All customers looking to transact business with the Assessor's Office are expected to present themselves wearing face masks as required in the Health Order and any other Personal Protective Equipment the customer feels is appropriate.
In the effort to promote and maintain effective social distancing, the Assessor's Office will be limiting the number of customer transactions occurring in the office at one time. Customers are asked to wait patiently in-line at predesignated locations and staff will assist them as quickly as possible. To shorten transactions and wait times, customers are encouraged to complete required documents online or via email/telephone when possible.

Assessing property is a big business. The Yolo County assessment Roll is over $25.7 billion and consists of more than 67,000 assessments.

The Assessor is an official elected for a four-year term. This office is responsible for appraisals of all real and personal property in the County, except public utility property, which is appraised by the State Board of Equalization. The Assessor maintains records on business and real property characteristics and sales. Annually the Assessor prepares the local assessment roll identifying each property, the ownership, and the net taxable value. The tax roll is presented to the Auditor-Controller on or before July 1st of each year.
