Yolo County Hires Museum Curator

Post Date:10/31/2018 12:03 PM

Press Release

(Woodland, CA) – After a nationwide search, Yolo County Library is pleased to announce the appointment of Iulia Bodeanu as the county’s first museum curator. Community leaders from YoloArts, Yolo County Historical Museum, Friends of the Yolo County Archives and Yolo County Library played instrumental roles in the recruitment and selection process.

The museum curator is a new, full-time, limited-term position working under the auspices of the Yolo County Library. In this role, Ms. Bodeanu will lead a full review of the Yolo County historical collection, housed in Yolo County’s historical Gibson House and on the property, located in Woodland. The review process will include re-housing collection items and preservation work. In addition, Ms. Bodeanu will use the historic collection to develop countywide exhibitions which will expand community knowledge of the rich and diverse history of Yolo County. Ms. Bodeanu will also work with local schools, non-profit cultural organizations and libraries to expand the awareness of the collection and promote its relevance for all local residents.

Ms. Bodeanu turned her personal interest and passion for museums into a profession through higher education and work experience. She completed degrees in both English and Art History from University of California, Berkeley and earned a master’s degree in Museum Studies with an emphasis in Museum Education from San Francisco State University. Ms. Bodeanu also received a teaching credential from University of California, Davis which will further inform her work on educational exhibits and programs.

In addition to serving as the interim museum curator for Yolo County, Ms. Bodeanu has worked at a number of history and arts organizations throughout Northern California, helping to carry out the missions of these cultural organizations. Her experience includes working with docents at the Sonoma County Museum in Santa Rosa, implementing educational programming for Verge Center for the Arts in Sacramento and developing fundraising events at the California Agricultural Museum in Woodland. These experiences provided Ms. Bodeanu with opportunities to work with various stakeholders while learning about public engagement, collections care and non-profit management.

“I am excited about exploring and better understanding what the collection holds, with the hope of telling new and interesting stories with the historical objects that have been not been viewed by the public in many years,” said Iulia Bodeanu. “This is an exciting time for Yolo County, the Gibson House and history in general. We have a new opportunity to engage with our past, while looking forward to our future.”
