Tis’ the Season to Join Yolo County Library’s “Food for Fines” Program
(Woodland, CA) – The Yolo County Library is offering a new “Food for Fines” program this holiday season that allows library card holders who donate one food item to also clear $1 from their Yolo County Library overdue fines. There is no limit to the number of donations and no limit to the reduction in fines cardholders can receive.
All Yolo County Library cardholders can donate food from November 15 through December 15 at the circulation desk of any Yolo County Library location. Donated items will be given to the Yolo Food Bank to feed the hungry this winter. Suggested donations include the following:
• Canned tuna or meats
• Canned fruits and vegetables
• Canned or dry beans or soup
• Canned or boxed meals
• Cereal, rice or pasta
• Fruit juice or shelf-stable milk
• Peanut butter
The Yolo Food Bank recommends nutritional options such as 100% fruit juices, low-sodium soups and whole grains. They cannot accept rusty or unlabeled cans, non-commercial items, alcoholic beverages or mixes, food packaged in glass, or perishable, expired, open, used or homemade items.
“In Yolo County, one in six people do not know where their next meal will come from,” said Yolo County Librarian Patty Wong. “Your generosity will help feed the hungry and make a difference to those in need. In return, the Yolo County Library is happy to reduce overdue fines that may be on your library card account.”
The Yolo County Library fosters collaboration while supporting the growth and well-being of its community members. This program is possible through the support and commitment from local partnerships, library staff and the community.
