Yolo Classic Car and Truck Show Announces Winners

(Woodland, CA) – On August 24, over 700 people attended the fourth annual “Cruisin’ into the Next Chapter” Classic Car and Truck Show at the Yolo Branch Library, located at 37750 Sacramento Street in Yolo. The event was sponsored by the Friends of the Yolo Branch Library and Yolo County Library.

Over 100 classic cars and trucks lined the streets in the town of Yolo.  Dan Swett was awarded Best of Show for his 1934 Ford two-door sedan.  First and second place awards were given in the following 12 categories:

  • Stock Car 1900-1945: 1st place: Bill Spurlock 1932 Plymouth Convertible; 2nd place: Shawn Beaman 1937 Chevy Master Deluxe
  • Stock Car 1946-1960: 1st place: Carey Solorio 1956 Buick Regal; 2nd place: David Arriaga 1954 Chevy Bel Air Hard Top
  • Stock Car 1961-1975: 1st place: Jim McClish 1972 Chevy Z28 2nd place: Steve Borba 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1
  • Modified Car 1900-1945: 1st place: B Hendrix 1934 Ford 5 Window Coupe; 2nd place: Dan Swett 1934 Ford 2 Door Sedan
  • Modified Car 1946-1960: 1st place: Ted Hillyer 1951 Chevy Deluxe Coupe; 2nd place:  Bruce Risley1950 Studebaker Champion Starlight Coupe
  • Modified Car 1961-1975: 1st place: Manuel Badillo 1961 Chevy Impala; 2nd place: Frank Morales 1966 Impala SS Convertible
  • Stock Truck 1946-1975: 1st place: Erick Charter 1949 Chevy 4400 Flatbed Truck
  • Modified Truck Car 1900-1945: 1st place: Jose Villalobos 1936 Chevy Pick-up; 2nd place: Merle Grant 1932 Ford Pick-up
  • Modified Truck Car 1946-1975: 1st place: Scott Pollice 1966 Chevy Pick-up; 2nd place: Art & Laurie Jaime 1956 Chevy Pick-up
  • Under Construction: 1st place: Mel Winn 1931 Plymouth 3 Window Coupe, 2nd place: Ben Goodwin 1972 Plymouth Duster
  • Rat Rod: 1st place: Frank Towse 1946 GMC; 2nd place: Dan Michels 1929 Ford Coupe

In addition, the “Fire Chief’s Award” was presented to local Fire Protection District representative Ted Hillyer for his 1951 Chevy Sedan Deluxe.

This year’s event also featured an expanded youth lowrider bike show that included a competition.  Members of the Socios and Emperors Bike Clubs participated along with non-affiliated youth. First and second place awards were given in five categories plus a People’s Choice award which went to Isaac Cano, age 12.

  • Best 16”-20”: 1st place: Juan Cano; 2nd place: Angel Santillan
  • Best 20”-26”:  1st place: Emiliano and Salvador Solorzano, (Emperor’s Bike Club); 2nd place: Jacob Rendon
  • Best Original: 1st place: Addison Rendon (Socios); 2nd place: Nathan Urbano (Socios)
  • Best Custom: 1st place: Steve Rangel (Socios)
  • Best Pedal Car: 1st place: Cain Rendon (Socios); 2nd place: Austin Garcia

Attendees saw classic cars and trucks, listened to music by the Penny Ante Band and Rockwell Sound & Lighting with special guest DJs, viewed antique fire trucks from local fire departments, toured the historic Yolo Blacksmith building, looked at a display of antique tractors and gas engines, and visited information tables from the Yolo County Integrated Waste Management and Yolo County 2020 Census Committee.  Kids also enjoyed free face painting and other activities at the Yolo Branch Library, including a free book.

The Friends of the Yolo Branch Library want to thank the community for making this event a success. Over 100 volunteers, as well as the County of Yolo, Yolo Fire Protection District, Yolo Blacksmith, Yolo Market, Cache Creek High School, and dozens more generous businesses, worked with the Friends and the Yolo County Library to make this event special. All proceeds from the event will fund programs and services at the Yolo Branch Library, which serves the communities of Yolo, Zamora, Dunnigan and surrounding areas.
