National Library Week Spotlights Libraries Strengthening Communities
(Woodland, CA) – From April 7-13, Yolo County Library joins libraries across the United States to celebrate the many ways they build strong communities and transform lives.
At Yolo County Library branches, families are invited to attend storytime programs and obtain information about free community resources, speak with local service providers, and learn how to help their children improve their literacy skills. Library users are also welcome to experiment and collaborate using new technologies like 3D printing, virtual reality tools, or learn alongside one another in English Conversation Groups.
Yolo County Library supports the educational and entertainment needs of the community by offering access for all to books, DVDs, audiobooks, early learning kits, materials in many languages, and a variety of digital resources, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, online test preparation materials, language learning tools, and newspaper and journal articles.
Through support from the California State Library, the Yolo County Library now offers access to several additional digital resources, including the New York Times in English, Spanish and Mandarin; primary source material and archival history collections through Archives Unbound; and Britannica School and Escolar (in Spanish) for encyclopedic information. These and other resources can be accessed with a Yolo County Library card by visiting: yolocountylibrary.org/research/.
“Libraries are cornerstones of democracy, promoting the free exchange of information and ideas for all,” said Yolo County Librarian Mark Fink. “They strengthen the community by offering opportunities for everyone to read, create, socialize, and grow regardless of age, race, ethnicity, creed, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity or socioeconomic status.”
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
