H1N1 Vaccine Available in Yolo County
Woodland, CA-- The flu may be leveling off, but it isn’t going away. In California, we are still seeing more people sick with the flu than we would normally see at this time of year. Laboratory testing shows that Novel H1N1 is the main flu virus making people sick around the state.
The California Department of Public Health estimates that 4.3 million Californians have already been infected with Novel H1N1. As of December 22, 2009, 12 million doses of vaccine had been shipped to health care providers in California. But California’s population is over 36 million people. Which means that most Californians have either not gotten sick from Novel H1N1 yet or received the vaccine, so are still at risk for getting the Novel H1N1 flu.
“This slowdown in flu activity and additional shipments of the vaccine means there is a window of opportunity to get vaccinated,” states Dr. Joseph Iser, Yolo County Health Officer and Director. “The more people get vaccinated, the less likely the disease will spread in the coming months.”
The vaccine is now available to the general public through healthcare providers and retail pharmacies. The Health Department is also sponsoring several public H1N1 flu vaccine clinics.
