Our Mission
The Auditor-Controller and Treasurer-Tax Collector protects county financial resources and ensures adequate fiscal accountability within the county government.
The Department
The two main divisions of the department were previously separate county departments that merged in 2007. The Auditor-Controller division maintains the official financial records of the county and conducts internal audits. The Treasurer-Tax Collector division is responsible for receiving and safekeeping the county financial assets and collecting all amounts due the county, including property taxes and court-ordered amounts.
The Department Head
Howard Newens, C.I.A., C.P.A., is the elected county auditor-controller and treasurer-tax collector. He started his career in public accounting and stepped into local government finance in 1979. He joined Yolo County in May 2000, was elected auditor-controller in 2002 and auditor-controller and treasurer-tax collector in 2006.
"County government does not serve its citizens unless it is accountable. We provide this assurance of accountability" - Howard Newens
