Residential Building Permits - What do I do now?

Over the Counter Permits

Typically over the counter permits will only require a detailed description of your project along with a value of the work, including materials, for the project. In most cases these permits can be issued on the same visit to the Building Division. Examples of these permits are Re-Roof, Electrical Panel Changeout or Water Heater replacement.

Visit our Permit Services page for more information.

Construction Permits

However, in certain circumstances more time may be needed to review the plans in detail prior to issuing permits.

These permits typically require a full set of construction plans to show what is being built from the ground up to the roof. In most cases the plans are drawn by a design professional who knows what information the Building Division needs for plan review and can address any comments from the plan reviewer.

These permits in most cases will require plan review by other departments and entities, This list can consist of the following:

    Environmental Health
    Planning
    Public Works
    School District
    Fire Department
Yolo Solano Air Quality Mangement District

These other reviews typically have a fee associated and can be collected by the building division or at their respective offices.
