The Woodland clinic shuttle pick up will be located at the County Fair Mall on Gibson and the West Sacramento shuttle will pick up at multiple points along Sacramento Avenue. For a complete shuttle schedule, go to www.yolobus.com.
Vaccinations will be provided for any Yolo County resident over six months of age on a first come, first served basis. Both traditional injectable vaccine and FluMist (a nasal spray) vaccine will be available. Informational materials about the vaccine in English, Russian, and Spanish will be provided at the clinics, and interpreters will be available on site.
Seasonal influenza is responsible for approximately 36,000 deaths per year. Those at highest risk for severe disease include young children, elderly people, and those with weak immune systems due to disease or pregnancy.
“Not only is this an important public service to help protect those who are at risk for seasonal flu, but these clinics are also a great opportunity for the Health Department, along with all its partners, to prepare to provide vaccine for large numbers of people when Novel H1N1 flu vaccine becomes available,” states Dr. Joseph Iser, Yolo County Health Department Director-Health Officer.
Vaccines are provided through the California Department of Public Health Immunization Branch, and the clinics will be implemented with the help of the following partner agencies: City of Woodland, City of West Sacramento, Woodland Healthcare, Washington Unified School District, Yolo County Transportation District (Yolobus), UC Davis Medical Center, California State University Sacramento, American Red Cross, along with many others.
