Press Release

Davis Library Temporarily Moving to 2801 Second Street

(Woodland, CA) – The Mary L. Stephens Branch Library, located on E. 14th Street in Davis, will close for three weeks, beginning August 15, while collections and furniture are moved to a temporary location at 2801 Second Street. The temporary location is necessary to accommodate the library program while the Davis branch library facility on E. 14th Street is being renovated. The library will reopen at the Second Street location on September 8, at 10:00 a.m., resuming the normal schedule for approximately 12 months (visit: www.yolocountylibrary.org for hours of operation). During this time of transition, Davis branch library users should be aware of the following:

? During the three week closure, library items can be returned through the outside book drop at the library’s East 14th Street location. A book drop at the temporary library will become operational on September 8.

? One week prior to the closure, beginning August 8, users will not be able to place holds on Davis branch materials, and inter-library loan requests for pick-up at the Davis branch will be suspended. Library users will continue to be able to place requests for items displayed in the online catalog, but will have to specify pick-up at another Yolo County Library branch location.

? During the closure, Davis branch materials will be temporarily suppressed from the library’s catalog system. When the temporary site on Second Street opens on September 8, Davis branch library materials will again display in the online catalog and holds can again be placed. All suspended inter-library loan activity will resume at this time.

The temporary Second Street library will share the building, and its ample parking, currently used by Explorit Science Center. The closest bus route to this facility is the Unitrans A-Line, which stops on 5th Street between the Police Station and Pena Street. The temporary library will contain library materials, public computers and furniture relocated from the East 14th Street facility. Wireless Internet access will also be available. The Second Street facility, however, will not have public meeting rooms. Options for meeting and library programming services are being explored.

The library’s East 14th Street location will be closed while the building undergoes significant renovation paid for by Measure P funds – overwhelmingly passed by Davis voters in 2007 – which increased the parcel tax that funds expanded library services, programs and facilities in Davis. The newly renovated Davis branch library on East 14th Street is expected to reopen during the second half of 2010.

“We are grateful to the Davis community for their ever-present support of our library programs and services, and especially for their patience during this time of transition,” said Yolo County Librarian Patty Wong.
