West Sacramento Library Offers Free Computer Classes
(Woodland, CA) – Beginning in November, the Arthur F. Turner Community Library in West Sacramento, a Yolo County library, will be offering computer skills classes for community members looking to increase their basic knowledge of computers, computer programs and use of the Internet. Classes will be free of charge and will be held the first Tuesday of each month, November through February.
“These courses are meant for those who want to learn more about computers or for those wanting to improve their technology skills,” said Yolo County Librarian Patty Wong. “For those who feel the ‘digital age’ has passed you by, these courses are for you.”
“More than half of today’s jobs require some technology skills, and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that will reach 77 percent in the next decade,” said Yolo County Board of Supervisors Chair Mike McGowan. “Learning basic computer skills such as how to use e-mail and create and upload a resume can significantly improve one’s prospects as a job candidate.”
Each computer class held at Arthur F. Turner Community Library located at 1212 Merkley Avenue in West Sacramento is a stand-alone course. Classes will cover computer basics, free e-mail services, searching online, Internet service 101, online shopping and Internet safety. Classes will be held 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on the following dates:
November 3
December 1
January 5
February 2
Enrollment is limited to 15 people per class. Note: the library will be closed to the general public when the courses are held so it is important to arrive on time to gain access to the building. To register, or for more information, visit the library at 1212 Merkley Avenue in West Sacramento, call (916) 375-6465 or e-mail Pablo.villa@yolocounty.org.
