The mission of the Yolo County Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Program is to assure that pregnant women and their children are able to obtain quality maternal and child health services.
Goals of the MCAH Program:
- All children are born healthy to healthy mothers.
- No health status disparities among racial/ethnic, gender, economic, and regional groups.
- A safe and healthy environment for women, children, adolescents, and their families.
- Equal access is for all women, children, and their families to appropriate and needed care within an integrated and seamless system.

As Mandated by the Federal Title V MCH grant, Yolo County MCAH program conducts a community needs assessment every five years to develop a subsequent plan for allocating the resources to address the identified needs of its MCH population over the next five years.
The community needs assessment was conducted over a one-year period, which resulted in establishing Obesity and Youth Substance Use Prevention as the two MCAH priority goals targeted for improvement in the 2005 Five Year Action Plan. To view the Community Needs Assessment, 2004 click here.
In collaboration with the Yolo County Health Department Epidemiology Unit, the MCAH Program has released the 2006 Birth Report. This report summarizes data on Yolo County live births for 2006. To view this report, click here."
Services provided or coordinated by the MCAH Program:
- Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP)
CPSP is a voluntary program that seeks to improve the health of low-income pregnant women and to give their babies a healthy start in life, by providing enhanced Medi-Cal reimbursements to CPSP-certified obstetrical providers who implement CPSP protocols in their practices.
- Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR)
A multi-disciplinary FIMR team reviews selected fetal and infant deaths and determines if factors associated with death represent systemic challenges that require change. The team develops and implements interventions needed to reduce or eliminate factors contributing to the preventable fetal and infant mortality.
- High Risk Infant Follow Up Program (HRIF)
The HRIF Program provides home visits by Public Health Nurses to parents and caregivers of medically fragile infants. The purpose of the HRIF Program is to promote optimal health and minimize developmental delays by assisting families with meeting the needs of their high-risk infants.
- Prenatal Care Guidance Program (PCG)
The Prenatal Care Guidance Program assures that Medi-Cal-eligible women in Yolo County are receiving adequate prenatal care. PCG provides outreach to women of childbearing age in Yolo County.
- MCAH Program has just released Yolo County Youth: A Summary Report of Health and Well Being Indicators 2005
- 2007 MAMA Project Infant Feeding Assessment and Breastfeeding Rate Study
The Yolo County Maternal Child and Adolescent Health Program conducted a countywide survey of infant feeding practices focusing on breastfeeding initiation and duration. This report presents data and recommendations based on the 2007 Infant Feeding Assessment and Breastfeeding Rate Study.
