Car Seat Safety Event September 28

Post Date:09/14/2018 9:56 AM

Press Release

(Woodland, CA) – The Yolo County Health & Human Services Agency Car Seat Safety Program is hosting a car seat safety event on Friday, September 28, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the parking lot of Sutter Health Davis Hospital, located at 2000 Sutter Place in Davis.

During this free event, certified child passenger safety technicians will be offering car seat safety checks and education to parents and caregivers. The event is co-sponsored by AAA Insurance, CommuniCare Health Centers and Sutter Health Davis Hospital, and is part of Child Passenger Safety Week which runs from September 23-29. The week is dedicated to teaching parents and caregivers about the importance of correctly choosing, installing and using car seats, booster seats and seat belts. Parents will also be reminded of the importance of registering car seats with their manufacturers so they can be notified in the event of a recall.

“As a parent, keeping your children safe is always a top priority,” said Maria Duran, certified child passenger safety technician. “No parent ever wants to get it wrong when it comes to a child’s safety. That’s why we’re hosting this car seat safety check event during Child Passenger Safety Week.”

Motor vehicle crashes are a leading killer of children under age 4, and the latest research from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that nearly two out of three car seats are misused.

“Using age- and size-appropriate car seats and installing them correctly are the best ways to reduce these deaths,” said Ms. Duran. “More than one-third of children, age 12 and younger, who died in car crashes in 2016 were unbuckled. Many of those kids could have survived if they had been buckled up.”

For parents who cannot attend the event, the Car Seat Safety Program conducts individual car seat safety checks by appointment in their Woodland office. For more information on child car seat safety, call the Yolo County Car Seat Safety Program at (530) 666-8715.
