Press Release

(Woodland, CA) – Have you always wanted to save your own seeds but never knew how? The Hanna and Herbert Bauer Memorial Garden is hosting a free hands-on class about backyard garden seed saving on Wednesday, July 18, from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

This class will be taught by Erin McDermand, a University of California Master Gardener of Yolo County. David Linebarger, the community garden manager and UC Davis sustainable agriculture program graduate, will be hosting and facilitating the event. Participants will learn about various techniques for seed saving, the times of year to harvest various seeds for saving and dormancy and germination requirements for different seeds. There will be time to ask questions and discuss the importance of seed saving for environmental and economic reasons.

This class is free for all and is part of the Yolo County Health & Human Services Agency’s commitment to providing education and resources that help residents eat fresh fruits and vegetables and live healthier lives. Classes are offered free throughout the year at the community garden. To learn more about garden activities and classes, visit: www.yolocounty.org/garden.

Pre-registration by July 17 is required for the class. To register, contact David Linebarger at (530) 666-8429 or david.linebarger@yolocounty.org. The garden is located at 137 N.
