Post Date:10/02/2017 8:58 AM

Press Release

(Woodland, CA) – California Humanities, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities, awarded the Yolo County Library a $5,000 Humanities for All Quick Grant for its “I Am Your Neighbor – A Tale of Two Cities” project, a collaboration with Yolo County Housing and YoloArts. This project seeks to humanize the homeless experience and bring awareness to the difficulties of breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness by sharing stories and experiences through documentary films.

The community is invited to attend two double feature documentary film screenings that discuss the issues of homelessness. Each screening will include a panel discussion between the films.
     • October 12: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Arthur F. Turner Community Library at 1212 Merkley Avenue, West Sacramento, CA. Screening documentary films: “Our Journey Home” and “Life in a Basket”.
     • November 4: 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Veterans Memorial Theatre at 203 E 14th Street, Davis, CA. Screening documentary films: “Inocente” and  “When I Came Home”.

Community members will have the opportunity to donate supplies and/or funds at each event. The donations collected at the Arthur F. Turner Community Library will benefit the Annual West Sacramento Community Giveaway Day. The donations collected at the Veterans Memorial Theatre will benefit the Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter. Art from the YoloArts I SEE YOU program, which is created by adults who are experiencing homelessness, will be on display and available for sale, with proceeds directly benefiting the respective artists. Refreshments will be provided.
No registration is required. All programs are free to attend and open to the public.
