New Voter Registration Program for People with Disabilities Launched by Library and Election Office
REV UP Campaign - Making the DISABILITY VOTE Count
Woodland, CA– Justin Dart, father of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), said “Vote as if your life depended on it, because it does.” In celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act’s 27th Anniversary, the Yolo County ACE – Assessor/Clerk-Recorder/Elections office and Yolo County Library are participating in a national effort to educate and inform people with disabilities about voting. This effort, known as the REV UP Campaign, has designated July 17-21, 2017 as National Disability Voter Registration Week in advance of the June 2018 election. REV UP stands for Register! Educate! Vote! Use your Power!
There are over 35 million people with disabilities eligible to vote when registered. This number does not include “the ripple effect” of family, friends, and service professionals who will vote in-line with disability interests. Assessor/Clerk-Recorder/Registrar of Voters Jesse Salinas stated, “We are excited to partner with the Yolo County Library to deliver critical information about voting and voter registration to persons with disabilities in our community. We look forward to expanding our partnership in the future.”
Information on how to register to vote will be available at all Yolo County Library locations. Each community library has a computer with special text to speech and magnification software for people with visual disabilities. The libraries are accessible for people with mobility disabilities and staff will be able to assist people with questions about the voter registration process. Get ready for 2018 and register to vote!
