Yolo County Library Now Offers Early Learning Kits

Post Date:10/11/2016 4:41 PM

Press Release

(Woodland, CA) – All are welcome to join the Yolo County Library to celebrate their new Early Learning Kits on Monday, October 24 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Arthur F. Turner Community Library, located at 1212 Merkley Avenue in West Sacramento.

Participants will learn about the two types of Early Learning kits the Library is offering, School Readiness and Storytime, which are designed to help parents, caregivers or those who work with young children build and support the early literacy skills and knowledge of children between the ages of 0-5 in the comfort of a child’s home or learning environment. Both types of Early Learning kits are free for library cardholders to borrow for a period of four weeks at a time and can be placed on hold. Kits will be available at all eight Yolo County Library branches.

The School Readiness Kits come in 26 different themes, such as Dinosaurs, Math, My Body, Music, Wild Animals, Toddler Time and more, and will contain a complete unit of study for home, preschool or daycare use, such as books, educational materials and toys along with California Department of Education Preschool Curriculum Frameworks appropriate for that theme. All School Readiness Kits will also include at least two bilingual language books.

Storytime Kits are comprised of read aloud books for children ages 0-5 and are centered around themes such as Acceptance, Families, Kindness, Patience and Waiting, Opposites and more. All Storytime Kits contain at least two books in Spanish or English/Spanish as well as puppets and felt boards.

“This event is a great way to learn more about these Early Learning Kits,” said Yolo County Librarian Patty Wong. “By providing these opportunities to promote literacy-rich environments, we hope to support children in school and life.”

These kits were made possible by support and funding from the City of West Sacramento, First 5 Yolo and the Yolo County Library. For more information contact Vaile Fujikawa at: or Touger Vang at To learn more about the Yolo County Library visit: or connect with the library on Facebook at:
