Press Release

(Woodland, CA) - District Attorney Jeff Reisig announced that on Friday, April 4, 2014, Yolo County Superior Court Judge Timothy Fall sentenced former West Sacramento Police officer Sergio Alvarez to 205-years-to-life in state prison for sexually assaulting multiple women while on duty and in uniform.

On February 27, 2014, after nine days of deliberations, a Yolo County jury found Alvarez guilty of numerous charges including five counts of aggravated kidnapping, five counts of rape, sexual penetration, and oral copulation by use of authority, and eight counts of rape, sexual penetration and oral copulation by means of duress.  Alvarez was accused of using his position as a uniformed police officer to coerce at least five female victims to have sex with him.  During closing arguments, prosecutor Garrett Hamilton said that Alvarez was a “rogue” police officer who drove the West Sacramento streets in the early morning hours, targeting the “vulnerable members of our society” and using his authority to subdue them.

District Attorney Jeff Reisig applauded the efforts of Hamilton and detectives from the Sacramento Police Department who conducted the investigation.  “Hamilton and the Sacramento PD detectives put their heart and soul into this case,” said Reisig.  “As a result of their dedication, justice was served and Alvarez will never be able to harm again.”
