West Sacramento - "I Am Your Neighbor: A Tale of Two Cities"

Film screening for all ages

California Humanities, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities, awarded the Yolo County Library a $5,000 Humanities for All Quick Grant for its “I Am Your Neighbor – A Tale of Two Cities” project. This project seeks to humanize the homeless experience and bring awareness to the difficulties of breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness by sharing stories and experiences through documentary films. The community is invited to attend two double feature documentary film screenings that discuss the issues of homelessness. The films being screened are “Our Journey Home” and “Life in a Basket”. Each screening will include a panel discussion between the films. Community members will have the opportunity to donate funds and/or supplies such as preferably new children’s winter coats, warm clothing, blankets, coats, toys and other essential items like toothbrushes and socks. The donations collected at the Arthur F. Turner Community Library will benefit the Annual West Sacramento Community Giveaway Day. Art from the YoloArts I SEE YOU program, which is created by adults who are experiencing homelessness, will be on display and available for sale, with proceeds directly benefiting the respective artists. Refreshments will be provided.
